I was the graphic designer for the Yale Drama Coalition’s production of Gibel.
The play's focus is a suicide hot line with a dystopian twist. Setting the poster design inside of a rotary phone echoes the systemic nature of the disturbing subject, as well as directly referencing the central plot line. The overall darkness of the image, as well as the use of red, evoke the play's depressing imagery.
By replacing the numbers on the dial with the title, I offer the viewer an invitation to interact visually with the poster and its subject, while communicating the playful and unique balance the play strikes between being both deeply disturbing and riotously funny.
